Good to know: This is not a beach destination: the lakes are cold glacier-fed water, and the offers are rides and paddling tours, not swimming holidays. The regular public lake boats cover much of the same scenery for less, so a booked trip earns its price through the format, such as a jetboat or a guided kayak. Wind and weather can change or cancel departures.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen in Interlaken itself?

No. They are separate places in the valleys behind the town, reached by train, bus or cable car. Interlaken is the base; the sights are a journey away.

How long is a Jungfraujoch trip from Interlaken?

By rail it takes a little over two hours each way, so it is a full day. If you only have an afternoon, a nearer excursion such as Lauterbrunnen gives you more time looking at the view.

Does Interlaken have a beach?

No. Interlaken lies between two lakes, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and there is no sea. The boat and kayak offers on this site are sightseeing trips, not swimming trips.

Why are tours from Zurich, Bern or Lucerne not listed here?

Many popular Interlaken tours start in other cities. They are a different starting point, so we list only offers that begin in Interlaken and its valleys. If you are staying elsewhere, check the departure point before you book.

Is a Swiss Travel Pass or Berner Oberland Pass worth it?

Only if you will travel a lot. For a few days around Interlaken, single tickets can be cheaper. Both passes give a discount on the Jungfraujoch, not free entry; compare your planned journeys with the pass price and check on the booking page what is included.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Paragliding, boat trips and cable cars depend on wind and cloud, and the Jungfraujoch can be white on the day. Check the forecast and webcams, keep a spare day, and choose offers with free cancellation or rescheduling.

What does Interlaken not offer?

There is no sea, no beach, no large old town and no big museums in the town itself. It is a base for mountains, lakes and adventure sports, and prices reflect that. Bigger city sights are in Bern and Lucerne, each an hour or two away by train.
