Grindelwald First: Cliff Walk, Cable Car and Adventure Rides
Updated October 20, 2026 · 5 min read
Short answer
Attraction Ticket: Grindelwald First Cableway & Cliff Walk is a cable car ticket from Grindelwald village up to First, with access to the First Cliff Walk. It is listed at €128.37 per person, 4.1 stars from 63 reviews. The railway’s own page for First says the cable car ticket starts from CHF 38.
That is a very large gap, and no description we have explains it. “From” prices often refer to a cheaper fare, such as a one-way ticket or a discounted category, but the listing doesn’t say what its price covers. Open the booking page and check the “Includes” and “Not included” sections, and look up the railway’s current fare, before you pay €128.
What First is
First is a mountain at 2,166 metres above Grindelwald. The cable car takes about 25 minutes from the valley, with intermediate stations. The valley station is a 10-minute walk from the centre of Grindelwald, and the Bernese Oberland Railway runs from Interlaken Ost to Grindelwald every 30 minutes.
The Cliff Walk
The First Cliff Walk is a footbridge of 45 metres built out along the rock face, with views towards snow-covered peaks of 4,000 metres. The walk takes about 20 minutes. The listing mentions views of the Eiger North Face. Retailers’ ticket pages say the Cliff Walk is included with every gondola ticket, which matches the listing’s description “access to the First Cliff Walk”. Confirm this on the booking page.
What costs extra
Everything beyond the Cliff Walk needs an additional ticket. The railway describes:
- First Flyer: a zip line of 800 metres, up to 84 km/h, about 10 minutes, open all year.
- First Glider: a flight for up to four people, up to 72 km/h on the way out and 83 km/h on the way back, about 15 minutes, also in winter.
- First Mountain Cart: a cart ride from Schreckfeld to Bort (1,956 to 1,600 metres), about 30 minutes.
- First Trottibike: a scooter-bike from Bort down to Grindelwald (1,600 to 1,034 metres), about 30 minutes.
The railway’s Adventure Package starts from CHF 60 and includes up to two activities plus unlimited gondola rides for the day. The railway page we read gives no minimum ages, heights or weights for the rides; check them with the railway if you travel with children. The GetYourGuide listing describes only the cable car and the Cliff Walk.
Three ways to book it
| Offer | Price | Rating | Covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grindelwald First Cableway & Cliff Walk | €128.37 | 4.1 · 63 | cable car from Grindelwald village, Cliff Walk |
| Grindelwald First from Interlaken | €159.65 | 4.7 · 5 | train from Interlaken plus First cable car |
| Grindelwald Day Trip, First & Eiger Views | €203.88 | 5.0 · 2 | eight-hour small-group trip |
The Interlaken offer combines the train from Interlaken with the First cable car, at €159.65. It has only five reviews, so there is little to learn from the ratings. That price makes it €31.28 more than the cable car alone, and the extra is for a train ticket from Interlaken to Grindelwald.
If you’d rather not organise the day yourself, the day trip is an eight-hour small-group outing with two reviews. The description mentions an “all inclusive entrance option”.
When it isn’t worth it
First is a good half day only if the weather is clear. The Cliff Walk is a view platform, not a hike, and 20 minutes is all it takes. If cloud sits on the Eiger, you pay for a cable car ride and see little. Check the webcam on the Jungfrau Railways website before you set out.
For a higher summit with a bigger view, compare Jungfraujoch from Interlaken. For an adventure in Grindelwald itself, see the Grindelwald Canyon Swing (90 metres, €149.94, listed on our adventure pages) or our page for day trips from Interlaken.
Our pick
If you want First for the view and one of the rides, buy the ticket from the railway and use the GetYourGuide listing only if its price is close and its “Includes” list is clear. For a single combined ticket from Interlaken without planning the train, the €159.65 listing is the simpler option.
