Jungfraujoch From Interlaken: Guided Tour or Train Ticket?
Updated October 20, 2026 · 6 min read
Short answer
There are two ways to buy Jungfraujoch on GetYourGuide from Interlaken. From Interlaken: Guided Tour to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is the most-reviewed Jungfraujoch offer from Interlaken: 4.8 stars from 1,889 reviews, 7 hours, €280.47 per person. Jungfraujoch: Roundtrip to the Top of Europe by Train is the ticket-style version: €292.55, 4.5 stars from 406 reviews, 6 to 6.5 hours.
The guided tour is €12.08 cheaper than the train-only ticket. That is the opposite of what you might expect, and it is the reason to read the “Includes” section of both pages before you book.
The two offers side by side
| Guided tour | Train ticket | |
|---|---|---|
| Offer | From Interlaken: Guided Tour to Jungfraujoch | Jungfraujoch: Roundtrip by Train |
| Price | €280.47 | €292.55 |
| Rating | 4.8 · 1,889 reviews | 4.5 · 406 reviews |
| Listed duration | 7 hours | 6 – 6.5 hours |
Both descriptions are short. The guided tour presents Jungfraujoch as a World Heritage site with Europe’s highest railway station; the train offer gives the altitude as 3,454 metres and mentions the amenities at the top. Neither description says who meets you, in which language the guide speaks, or how long you have at the summit. Those details sit on the booking pages.
There is a third offer for people already in the valley: From Lauterbrunnen: Ticket to Jungfraujoch, €280.47, 4.3 stars from 64 reviews.
What the railway charges itself
You can also buy the ticket directly from the railway. The price depends on where you start; for Interlaken Ost the Tour-Switzerland guide gives no price and points to the Jungfrau Railways price calculator. From May to October 2026 a compulsory CHF 10 seat reservation is added. These are Swiss francs, not euros.
Three discounts matter:
- Swiss Travel Pass: 25% off the ticket; travel to Interlaken and Grindelwald is covered at no extra cost.
- Half Fare Card: the ticket costs half.
- Good Morning ticket: from CHF 190.40 in 2026 (1 May to 31 October), with the return leg by 1 p.m.
If you hold a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card, run the discounted rail price through the Jungfrau Railways calculator and compare it with the listings above. If you don’t, the question is the same: what do the listings include, and what do you want to organise yourself?
What the day looks like
The classic route runs from Interlaken Ost via Grindelwald or Wengen, and both lines join at Kleine Scheidegg. The journey up takes around two hours fifteen minutes by cogwheel train. At the top you find the Sphinx Observatory (3,571 metres), the view over the Aletsch Glacier and the Ice Palace carved into the glacier.
A faster route exists from Grindelwald Terminal on the Eiger Express gondola, about 45 minutes to the first station. The Tour-Switzerland guide lists that ticket from CHF 129.60. That is a different product, so don’t compare it with the Interlaken offers above.
Weather, altitude, and when to skip it
This is one of the most expensive excursions in the region, and its main risk is cloud. Check the summit webcam on the Jungfrau Railways website the evening before and again in the morning. If your date is cloudy, look at what the cancellation terms allow before you pay.
Most visitors notice the altitude: headaches, slight breathlessness, low energy. Take it slowly. If you have a heart or lung condition, ask your doctor before booking.
Skip Jungfraujoch if the forecast is bad, if your budget is tight, or if you have only one day and would rather spend it in the valley. Lauterbrunnen, Mürren and the Schilthorn offers mountain views for much less, and Grindelwald First is a cheaper high viewpoint. The full range sits on our Jungfraujoch tours page.
Our pick
For most people, the guided tour: it has more than four times the reviews, a better rating and a lower price than the train-only ticket. Choose the train ticket if you want to move at your own pace and the page confirms what is covered.
