Lauterbrunnen, Mürren or the Schilthorn: Which Day Trip From Interlaken?
Updated October 20, 2026 · 6 min read
Short answer
Three different trips hide behind the name “Lauterbrunnen”, and the price follows how high you go. For most visitors, the valley and the village are enough: From Interlaken: Guided Grindelwald & Lauterbrunnen Tour costs €86.30 for 7 hours. If you want the village of Mürren as well, Lauterbrunnen-Mürren: Swiss Alps Tour from Interlaken costs €276.15. For the Schilthorn summit, Swiss Skyline: Mt. Schilthorn Small Group Tour costs €390.50.
The options compared
| Trip | Price | Rating | Duration | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guided Grindelwald & Lauterbrunnen Tour | €86.30 | 4.2 · 48 | 7 hours | Grindelwald, then Lauterbrunnen Valley |
| Lauterbrunnen + Trümmelbach Falls Tour | €226.53 | 4.8 · 6 | 3.5 hours | village, Staubbach Falls, Trümmelbach Falls |
| Lauterbrunnen-Mürren Tour | €276.15 | 4.8 · 26 | 7 hours | waterfall, car-free Mürren |
| Mt. Schilthorn Small Group Tour | €390.50 | 4.6 · 11 | 7 hours | cable car to the summit |
The ratings sit on few reviews. The Schilthorn tour has 11, the Trümmelbach tour 6. Treat them as “no complaints so far”, not as proof.
What is in the valley
Lauterbrunnen is marketed as the valley of 72 waterfalls, a local count rather than an audited figure. The one you see from the village is Staubbach Falls, which drops nearly 300 metres from the cliff. Trümmelbach Falls is something different: ten glacier-fed falls inside the mountain, reached by a tunnel funicular built in 1913 and by passages and stairways cut into the rock. The Lauterbrunnen + Trümmelbach tour in the table names both.
What Mürren and the Schilthorn add
Mürren is a car-free village high above the valley, with views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren takes about ten minutes. The Schilthorn summit is at 2,970 metres, and Piz Gloria, the revolving restaurant on top, was a location in the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service; the tour description mentions the film.
You can also do all of this without a tour, on public transport. The Stechelberg–Mürren cable car, the cable car to the Schilthorn and the train to Lauterbrunnen run on their own tickets, and the prices are on the Jungfrau Railways website. Compare the tour price with what you would pay yourself.
The cheaper way to see the valley
The guided Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald tour and the panoramic buses are the budget end. Sky Glass Bus Tour to Interlaken, Grindelwald & Lauterbrunnen costs €96.01 for 12 hours, with 308 reviews and 4.6 stars, making it the most-reviewed of the Lauterbrunnen offers. A shorter option is the Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald Panoramic Glass Roof Bus Tour at €74.43 for 4.5 hours, but its rating is 3.8 stars from 63 reviews, the lowest among these offers.
For something active, a six-hour e-bike tour along the Lütschine to the valley of 72 waterfalls costs €268.60; it is listed on our e-bike tours page.
When not to go
The Schilthorn is a view. If the summit is in cloud, you pay €390 for a cable car in the fog. Check the webcams before you go, and ask what the operator does if the weather turns. The valley itself is rewarding even in poor weather, because the waterfalls don’t need clear skies.
The same cloud problem applies to Jungfraujoch, and to a tandem paragliding flight. Our page for day trips from Interlaken has the complete list.
Our pick
For most people, the guided Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen tour: the cheapest seven-hour trip of the group, and it covers two valleys. If the Schilthorn is the reason you’re coming, the small-group tour is the most affordable listing that names it, but with 11 reviews its record is short.
